Influence of Surface Roughness on Radiation from Parabolic Mirror Collimators with Cylindrical Symmetry in the Fraunhofer Region

Optica Acta 32 (1985) 27–37

A theoretical investigation is made of the influence of surface roughness generated by a normal stationary stochastic process on both the electric field and the flux of energy re-radiated from parabolic mirror collimators with cylindrical symmetry in the Fraunhofer region. The problem is formulated using the theory of the diffraction of electromagnetic waves together with the physical-optics approximation of the electromagnetic field on the surface of the collimator. The formulae derived are also analysed numerically. Numerical examples are given which illustrate a typical effect of the surface roughness on the flux of energy re-radiated from parabolic mirror collimators in the microwave region of the spectrum.
